Spiritual
Landscape
45 X 40 - Photo Florence Callandre
In this painting I have attempted to depict my
spiritual experience at a hindu temple and that of a landscape. I have
found a distinct relationship that has emerged whereby the entire process
followed by a devotee at a hindu temple can be demonstrated in the
landscape. Within the landscape in the natural setting, one finds a number
of symbols, like the trisul.
In the background of the composition I have
included three cellas. One could call it the sanctum of a hindu temple.
These are usually very dark chambers that host the gramadevatas. I have
use symbolic forms to demonstrate the gramadevatas. The foreground has a
mixture of forms and colours that highlight the material world and the
quest of the individual or devotee to seek the Divine. This is a journey
and the central embryo is really a stage in the development towards
reaching spiritual enlightenment. The elongated image reflects the Divine
Master and it is through this formation I have attempted to show the
superhuman element. |
